The Bijar Cowl is named after the capital of the Kurdish province found in NW Iran, where my father’s family is originally from. This ancient region is known for its beautiful textile art, including hand woven carpets, clothing and tapestries that often include geometric and medallion patterns. I wanted to explore these traditional motifs to create something that that not only celebrated my Kurdish culture, but honored its beautiful traditions.

The cowl is knit in the round using heavy DK/light worsted weight yarn (testers are welcome to use whatever combination of yarn they like). The piece is then finished off with a twist and grafted together (using the kitchener stitch) to create the moebius style cowl.
